The Make Up of Khamsa Jewelery
January 26th 2012 -
When you purchase Khamsa jewelery it is interesting when you think about the history of the symbolism not to mention the craftmanship that goes into the making of the jewelery. Many people don’t think about what literally goes into making this jewelery. Usually and traditionally the jewelery would be made of Jet which is then set in silver which represents purity. Historically this jewelery would be painted red or dipped into the blood of a sacrificed animal and then hung in the entrance or the doorway to serve as protection against evil. A new mother would hang the amulet in the home as protection for the baby against the evil eye. This tradition is still carried on by some today still, although animals are not sacrificed any more, the jewelery would just contain traces of red in it instead. No matter what it is used for, the fact is that Khamsa is still being used till today and it is tradition and belief that keeps it alive and effective and it goes to show that some traditions don’t die.
